Happy things I’ve been thinking about, doing, or loving lately; in no particular order:
Lately I’ve been walking around our bedroom, standing in front of random things and asking myself “what would make this better/cozier/easier/more functional?”. I started by taking the extra slats out of our blinds--omg it makes such a difference! We had way too many extra slats in there! Now the blinds glide up and down instead of feeling like the weight of it all will come crashing down on the plants that we put on the window sill every morning. Yay planties! (The two images above are only after shots--but when we opened them before there was about twice as many slats!)
We’ve also bought and built a MULIG IKEA shelf in white to have more functional storage. We love it! It was so easy to put together, it looks great, and it feels sturdy! We’re slowly filling it but so far we’ve designated the bottom shelf for my yarn and bought two 12" x 12" ClosetMaid Soft Storage boxes in grey and they fit perfectly! The second shelf up is more of a moving shelf, at night two of our snake plants sit there and during the day they go to the windowsill for light. When I was looking for a shelf to replace our second hand coffee table I was picturing something white, open on the sides and top, and something that would let as much light through it as possible. Adam was thinking something metal and possibly white, so this was a great combo of what we were both thinking! It’s metal, white, open on all sides, and has holes in the shelves which let even more light through!
Another new room addition we added was a white back-of-the-closet-door mirror. We got it at a local Kmart for $4! It was on sale! In our first apartment we had a big closet with two sliding mirror doors which were great for checking your outfit before you leave. Since that place we haven’t had a full length mirror and it was a little ridiculous to have to bend your leg so you can at least see what your shoes look like with your outfit even if you’re not standing but instead doing a “foot pop” lol. It’s silly to even talk about haha. Anyways having a back of the closet door mirror is epic! We wish we had gotten one sooner.
I recommend walking around your spaces and asking yourself questions like that if you’re feeling in a rut, like I was, with your environment. Sometimes a few changes make all the difference!
Above is the front, below is the back with floaters. I'm still working on my tension.
Like I mentioned in my Color With Me: No. 1 post I’ve started knitting again and it’s been so nice! First I was practicing stripes and fair isle knitting (or stranded knitting) with some yarn I’ve had for a while (like since I was 11). I was doing pretty good until I accidentally dropped a few stitches and then pulled them out further so I thought “hey, why don’t I just start an official project now?”.
So now I'm currently working on a striped blanket in grey and a lovely blue color! I can’t wait until I’m done and get to fold it up on the bed--and use it of course! I think it will look cozy but modern when I’m done, I’m so excited! I love handicrafts, they’re great for homemaking as well as a great hobby to relax with. I love sneaking in a row at different times in the day as well as a row or two at night. I’ll show you guys what it looks like when I’m done. (you can see it put away in the last shelf picture)
Little Horse Cakes
My goodness you guys! These little pans are too cute! I got one of the big horses secondhand at a local Salvation Army a few years ago and I would have bought another one right then but the only place you could get one at the time was eBay. So I decided to wait to get another one and just use it as a one layer cake or know that it would take me longer to make a two layer cake. Well a few weeks ago I thought “hey, why not look again?” and I was in luck! IKEA had them in stock again! But the shipping alone would have cost as much as the item so I looked around and of course eBay had them. The shipping was free so the total was cheaper and this time I got one! Within the week of it’s arrival I baked a vegan two layer little horse cake with one layer chocolate cake and one layer brownie (of course)! Everyone liked it! I only wish I had gotten the eBay one years ago because the pan shapes are slightly different but ah well, when they’re stacked you can’t really tell--plus who’s gonna turn their nose up at a little horse cake?
What things/projects/activities, random or not, have been your happy thoughts lately? I’d love to hear in the comments! Have a great week everyone! See you on Friday!
