As well as celebrating a birthday, when my sister Darla and her boyfriend were out for a visit we also took a mini road trip and went to Baldwin Beach in Lake Tahoe. If you're curious, here are some of the pictures I took!
These are the pictures in the order they were taken, the first one was actually taken from the car while we were driving. The views were just too lovely to not try and snap a picture. It was so much fun to pack up a car or two and take off to Tahoe. The drive is one of my favorite parts, all the lovely trees--I’d include my attempt at snapping a picture of the trees but they were all too blurry lol.
Here’s when we could start to see the beach as we walked up, it was so beautiful and looked perfect! Little did we know what was in store at the actual beach. Once we got there we attempted to claim a picnic table but the bees there were relentless! We brought sandwiches to eat for lunch and as soon as we took them out the bees went crazy--they even flew into then got stuck in the sandwich bag. I’m not normally too bothered by bees but this was crazy!
We decided to ditch the picnic table idea, thinking “of course they’ll be there they know food will be there!” and moved closer to the water. Which did help decrease the numbers of bees by a fair bit but it was still hard to eat with them flying around surveying the area. On the bright side though, there were a bunch of birds on the beach, like this seagull, hanging out so it was fun to watch them do their thing.
The water was absolutely beautiful! And so clear! It wasn’t too cold once you got wet and the beach was a really nice gradual slope. Growing up I’ve only really been to ocean beaches but I’m all about the lake beaches now! I’m not sure on stats about lake beaches vs ocean beaches but the lake felt safer than the ocean. While we were there I kept thinking about what kind of creatures were lurking in the very depths of Lake Tahoe, surely amazing things.
I think this is my favorite picture. It’s hard to choose, but I think this one is it. I just love the colors, the blues and tan, with that person in red floating out there. Lovely!
See what I mean? The water was just so clear!
This was adjacent to the beach on our right. Such amazing views!
Here are the gulls again, just hanging out.
I don't think there were many of these guys around but they were so sweet to watch.
This was right as (s)he was taking a drink of water.
There were even geese! They were swimming and running around; I wasn't expecting to see them here so that was a cool surprise!
I took this as we were walking back to the car, the tree just looked so magical. in the picture below you get a better look at the hole or gash in the trunk.
It was such a lovely day! I hope to go back some time, hopefully when the bees aren't as crazy, but even with the bees it was still a really nice trip. If you're in the area I'd totally recommend checking out Baldwin Beach, you'll love it!
Have you been here before? Did you get to go on any trips this summer (mini or not)? The seasons come and go so quickly, it's nice to soak them up while you can! I hope you guys have a great day! I'll see you on Friday!
